International Women's Week on DeviantArt is being celebrated between March 3rd and the 9th, though International Women's Day officially takes place on March 8th. IWD is a UN sponsored event with the goal to raise the awareness of the women's issues worldwide,

As many of you already know, women had a long and arduous fight for their equal status with men, and in many parts of the world still, they are very underprivileged, marginalised, ill treated, poorly educated and receive little or no respect.

We as women are still paid less than men working in the same positions. Many are undereducated, a number are being treated as commodity, even slavery and forced into prostitution. Girls pf extremely young age are being forced into marriage with much older men, and what makes it even worse their bodies are underdeveloped for childbearing, and many die during childbirth or suffer later from the side-effects of it, such as weak bladder and lowering of the uterus, and being outcasted by community and families. Women still struggle to break the glass ceilings within the corporate domain, and in many parts of the world women do not have right to vote, or even have a voice.

So in order to change this, to give all those young women hope, and a drive to succeed, we wanted to organise an event that will empower them, and give women and girls strength to reach for their dreams, and that extra push they need.

This is a community driven event, meaning in order for event to succeed we need everyone help. More people help out contributing to this event, the event will get bigger and better.

Volunteers are still needed from the community to help with this event. The person to contact is ^sbaraci who is organising and coordinating the event.

We also have a number of DA staff helping out with the events that will take place.

6. Any help is appreciated. Even small actions when undertaken by many can amount to huge things. We really need everyone to jump on board with this one to make it success.


7. Please feel free to promote this event (yes we need promoters and cheerleaders) through your journals, your signatures, use of the stampies etc.
