International Women's Day is a UN sponsored event with the goal to raise the awareness of the women's issues worldwide,

As many of you already know, women had a long and arduous fight for their equal status with men, and in many parts of the world still, they are very underprivileged, marginalised, ill treated, poorly educated and receive little or no respect.

We as women are still paid less than men working in the same positions. Many are undereducated, a number are being treated as commodity, even slavery and forced into prostitution. Girls pf extremely young age are being forced into marriage with much older men, and what makes it even worse their bodies are underdeveloped for childbearing, and many die during childbirth or suffer later from the side-effects of it, such as weak bladder and lowering of the uterus, and being outcasted by community and families. Women still struggle to break the glass ceilings within the corporate domain, and in many parts of the world women do not have right to vote, or even have a voice.

So in order to change this, to give all those young women hope, and a drive to succeed, we organised an event that will empower them, and give women and girls strength to reach for their dreams, and that extra push they need.

Yes, *Le-Visage's club contest 'The Face of 2008' came to an end last night at midnight, with a grand total of 121 entries. If you are judging, here is the gallery:[link]

Don't worry though judges, I will be putting all of the entries into a breakdown so you don't have to trawl the whole gallery to find your respective categories.

Winners will be announced on Friday, March 14th...

All those of you on my watch who participated and entered, well done. The quality of art is outstanding, and I am very proud.

To all those of you who provided me with help and support, thank you so much, I appreciate your patience with my making a nuisance of myself .

I would say without a doubt, that the club is a success. We have now over 300 watchers. That is fantastic for a club that has only been open for a little over two months. I hope that it will continue to grow. It's a good feeling to be in a position to provide exposure for artists, and a means for their work to read a wider circulation. Thank you everyone who has added the club *Le-Visage to their watch lists.
